NO fewer than 19 members of Saltney Gymnastics Club have earned national call-ups.

The gymnasts, all members of the club’s elite squad, have been named in the Welsh junior and senior acro-gymnastics teams.

The selections were made following a rigorous day of trials with senior selectors from Welsh Gymnastics making the final decisions.

For some of the gymnasts, it is the first time they have been called into a national squad. Others had to re-trial with no guarantee of a place, despite being members of the squad in previous years.

Saltney gymnasts in the senior team are Ella Barratt, Frankie Benson, Lillie Fisher, Beth Hallam, Danni MacReady, Georgia Place, Amy Ryan, Alex Scott, Amy Scott, Matt Scott and Sophie Wilson.

And selected for the junior team are: Oscar Booth, Anna Boyne, Megan Floyd, Maia Gioia, Paloma Gioia, Becky Hedley, Georgia Lucas, and Emily Salmon.

Mags Kerns, of Saltney Gym Club, said: “To have so many gymnasts from one club representing their national team is an amazing achievement and is testament to the high levels of coaching, dedication of the gymnasts, not forgetting the support from gymnasts’ families.”

Head coaches Denise Bayley and Debbie Lavender added: “We are thrilled to once again have so many gymnasts from our club competing on the international gymnastics scene. “It’s great to see all the hard work paying off!”

Saltney Gymnastics Club has seen a massive increase in new members, resulting in them having to put on additional classes. Members come from the surrounding Flintshire and Chester areas.

The club now runs beginners’ classes (from age three upwards) on Monday and Tuesday afternoons and a Saturday morning, with classes geared towards having fun, providing a positive experience and developing the important life skills of confidence and teamwork.
