EATON Golf Club’s inaugural Moore Scratch Trophy produced home success after a tightly-fought contest.

Five-strong teams from Delamere, Chester, Vicars Cross, Helsby, Portal Premier, Frodsham and Eaton golf clubs took part in the contest.

The best four gross scores would count toward the team total and the lowest gross on the day would win the trophy, while there was also a prize for the lowest gross on the day.

The matches were at Eaton’s new championship black course.

James Logan from Delamere equalled the course record with 70 and took the lowest individual prize.

The team event was a battle between Eaton and Delamere with no-one knowing which way it would go until the final two players came in, but 16-year-old Matt Robinson scored a 71 to secure victory for Eaton.

Mickey Moore, immediate past captain of Eaton, presented the trophy to the winning team.

It is planned for the event to take place annually with the winning club hosting the competition.
