West Cheshire AC’s George Hyde has powered his way to a new personal best and club record.

Hyde threw 14.4m in the U15 boys’ discus at Trafford in the second round of the Youth Development U13 and U15 Track and Field League – and the purple-vested team now sit top of the table.

As well as his great performance in the shot, which placed him at number three in the UK rankings for his age group, Hyde also launched the javelin 33.26m and took part in the 80m sprint hurdles.

He was backed up by more personal best performances from his teammates Ewan Brandon in the 100m (13.1s), Sam Paton 200m (27.2s), David Dentith 300m (40.6s), Sonny Dean 800m (2.15.6m), Jac Goodall 1,500m (4.53.8m), Patrick Tait 1,500m (5.47.1m) and Will Rattray discus (33.49m).

Daniel Pagan added further support with a hat-trick of point-scoring sprints in the 100m, 200m and 300m.

The U15 girls delivered an equally impressive set of results with a stream of personal bests and winning performances, including Emma Howe in the javelin with 38.98m and 27.9s in the 200m, Issy Clarke 1,500m (5.01.0m) and 300m (45.6s), and Erin Stuart 200m (29.2s). Lauren Dimbylow also recorded two personal bests in the 300m (48.6s) and 75m hurdles (13.1s).

In the 800m, both Anna Steward and Hope Pugh set personal best performances with times of 2.45.0m and 2.47.7m respectively, and added further to their collection of personal bests with Hope launching the hammer 15.15m and Anna spinning the discus to 13.86m.

Beth McMahon also helped herself to a new personal best of 16.8m in the hammer, Harriet Alexander sped her way to 14.2s in the 100m, and Keane Harrison threw 8.15m in the shot. Maisie Tipping was victorious in the 75m hurdles to add to the points tally.

Michael Ozoemelam recorded personal bests in the 100m (12.8s) and long jump (4.40m) for the U13 boys. Isaac Tait smashed his personal best in the 1,500m with a time of 5.04.3, while Nathan Partington improved his personal best in the long jump with a leap of 3.45m. Matthew Webb filled in for the 75m hurdles and the javelin, which he launched to a new personal best of 24.74m.

The U13 girls had their own record-breaker as Tamsin O’Keefe set a new club best in the 1,200m, and she was ably assisted by teammates Abigail Pawlett, Evie Tipping, Anna Crayston, Jess Hall, Lauren Jones, Hollie Jones and Emily Missantoni, who all recorded a series of wins and pbs.
