VAUXHALL Motors are hoping their club record attendance for a league match will be broken on Saturday when they welcome FC Halifax Town to Rivacre Park for the first time (3pm).

The current best stands at 818 – for the visit of Burton Albion 10 years ago – but Motors officials believe that could be smashed given the following the Shaymen boast.

Halifax, whose average home attendance is 1,384, are expected to be backed by a large travelling support for their maiden visit to the Ellesmere Port club.

Neil Aspin’s promotion-chasing team are on a superb run of form, winning their last six matches in the Blue Square North to haul themselves into the play-offs.

They will also be out to avenge their incredible 5-1 loss to Motors at The Shay in September.

Leighton McGivern hit a hat-trick as Carl Macauley’s men overcame the loss of John Bennett to a 14th-minute red card to record a famous 5-1 victory.

Providing no injuries were picked up in last night’s trip to Colwyn Bay – a game played after the Pioneer went to press – Motors manager Macauley should have a full-strength squad to choose from as top scorer McGivern, Kevin Holsgrove and Danny Fearnehough return from suspension.

Supporters of both clubs are advised to get to the ground early to avoid congestion at the turnstiles.

A question and answer session with the Motors management will take place after the match in the sports and social club next to the ground.

The session, which will begin at about 6pm, will give fans the chance to quiz boss Macauley, assistant Anthony Wright and coach Gary Martindale.

Tickets, which include a hot meal, cost £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.

Motors are at home to high-flying Guiseley next Tuesday (7.45pm).
