Chester FC moved back to the top of the Blue Square Bet North with a comfortable derby victory over 10-man Motors.

A 10th-minute Conor Roberts-Nurse own goal set Chester on their way to a win that moved them one point clear of Brackley Town and Guiseley at the summit.

The hapless Roberts-Nurse was sent off in the 27th minute but it was not until the 65th minute that debutant Danny Williams put the game to bed with a thumping volley.

The impressive left-winger, signed on a season-long loan from Kendal Town, then set up Sean Clancy to add an acrobatic third five minutes later.

The Blues went into the first competitive meeting between the neighbours on the back of a weekend success over Histon that extended their unbeaten home run to 16 matches.

Neil Young was far from happy with his side’s performance, however, and he made four changes to the team that started the unconvincing 2-1 victory.

Out went Wes Baynes, Dave Hankin, Iain Howard and the injured Marc Williams and in came Luke Denson, Ashley Williams, Danny Williams and Tony Gray.

Gray was instrumental in Chester’s opening goal of the night.

The striker picked up possession wide out on the right before turning inside on to his left foot.

Gray was given the time and space to whip in a dangerous cross which Roberts-Nurse nudged past the stranded Zac Jones.

Jones was nearly beaten by another of his own players in the 19th minute when David Thompson flicked an inswinging Clancy corner just past the post.

It was John Danby, though, who was the busier goalkeeper in a rain-lashed first half.

He got down low to his right to deny Craig Mahon inside the first 20 seconds after the pacy right-winger latched on to a poor Clancy pass.

Danby later made a routine stop from lone frontman Tom Rutter after Thompson pulled the ball back into the box.

But those were briefs scare for the Blues and they had a measure of control over the contest even before Roberts-Nurse was red carded in the 27th minute.

The right-back was somewhat harshly given his marching orders for a late tackle on Clancy.

Jones was eventually tested in the 44th minute, the Motors stopper tipping a first-time Danny Williams effort from the edge of the area over the bar.

Chester continued to threaten a second on the resumption of the second half.

Andy Nicholas produced a brave block to prevent a close-range Gray shot from troubling Jones before Rutter got back to head Paul Linwood’s goalbound drive off the line.

Moments later, Vauxhall’s backline was breached.

Substitute Dave Hankin made one of his first touches a telling one as he sent a cross to the back post for Danny Williams to crash home.

It was a fine finish but better was to follow.

Danny Williams this time was the creator. He stood the ball up for Clancy who, up from left-back, showed athleticism to volley his first goal for the club into the roof of the net.
