Vauxhall Motors 0 Brackley Town 2

MOTORS were unable to stop Brackley from going back to the top of the Blue Square Bet North as they lost a closely fought clash at Rivacre Park on Saturday.

It was a third straight defeat for Carl Macauley’s men, who had gone down to Brackley’s main title rivals – Chester FC and Guiseley – in their previous two matches.

Vauxhall, featuring new loan winger Robbie Booth from Chester, started brightly and passed the ball around well without testing Billy Turley.

So it came against the run of play when the visitors opened the scoring in the 12th minute.

Owen Story hooked a high cross into the penalty area where Marvin Robinson got to the ball before the onrushing Zac Jones and headed into the unguarded goal.

The hosts had the chance to level on 21 minutes.

Turley received a back pass and tried to take it around Craig Mahon. The Motors winger stole the ball off the Brackley goalkeeper and, from the left touchline, tried a speculative effort which had to be headed away from goal by Ryan Austin.

Turley was called into action on 58 minutes when he tipped over a 20-yard shot from Tom Rutter.

But it was Jones who was picking the ball out of the net 14 minutes later.

Lee Dames tried to head the ball back to his keeper but it lacked power and Steve Diggin nipped in to beat Jones and fire into the empty goal.

Vauxhall: Jones, Roberts-Nurse, Dames, Hannigan, Nicholas, Thompson (Moss 61), Mahon, Clair, Rutter, Burns, Booth (Winslade 73). Subs: Egerton, Kocsis, Ellison.
