TRANMERE Rovers striker Cole Stockton has made a welcome return to Vauxhall Motors.

The 17-year-old has rejoined the Motormen on a month’s loan to replace leading scorer Leighton McGivern, whose poor disciplinary record this season has seen him hit with a four-match suspension.

Stockton, highly rated at Prenton Park, spent time on loan with Vauxhall earlier in the campaign, scoring three goals in seven games before being recalled by Rovers boss Les Parry.

Motors manager Carl Macauley said: “We have got Cole back for a month, mainly as cover for Leighton. He did well for us last time he was here and was growing in confidence with each game so hopefully he can kick on and get us the goals to help us climb up the table.

“I would personally like to thank Tranmere Rovers, who have been brilliant in helping us out again.”

Stockton’s initial stay with Vauxhall was cut short when an injury crisis at Tranmere led to his recall.

The teenager made his senior debut for the League One side last month, coming on as a late sub and almost scoring in a 0-0 draw against Rochdale.

With Rovers having bolstered their squad in the January transfer window, Stockton has fallen back down the pecking order and was given permission to rejoin Motors late last week.

Vauxhall were due to host Hinckley United on Saturday but the match was postponed due to a frozen pitch following a morning inspection.

Up next for Macauley’s side is a long trek to Gloucester City this Saturday (3pm).

They are then due to host Boston United at Rivacre Park next Tuesday (February 21, 7.45pm).

Both Gloucester and Boston are in mid-table and Motors will be hungry for two victories as they are precariously placed in the Blur Square North table – just one place and one point above the relegation zone.
