ELLESMERE Port edged into the second round of the Pyke Cup on Saturday after winning a seven-goal thriller at Mossley Hill Athletic.

Two goals apiece from Danny McNicholson and Ryan Nicoll were enough for the visitors as Jay Halligan replied with all three goals for Mossley.

Vauxhall Motors Reserves are also through after they won 2-1 at home to Heswall, Mark Winsdale scoring twice.

But Willaston are out after losing 1-0 at home to Chester Nomads.

In the West Cheshire League, mid-table Capenhurst Villa Reserves drew 2-2 at West Kirby Reserves in Division Two. Alan Locke and Lewis Walters scored for Villa.

In Division Three, Cape’s second team ran out 2-0 winners at home to Christleton Reserves thanks to goals by Ian Armstrong and Tom Hockley.

A goal by Shaun Weaver was not enough for Ellesmere Port Reserves as they lost 4-1 at home to South Liverpool.

Ellesmere Port Town Ladies overcame Stockport County Yellows 8-2 in the Cheshire Women’s League Cup.

Port’s scorers were Toni Livens (2), Kerri Brown (2), Sian Clowes (2), Lydia Ward and player of the match Caroline Oliver.
