CONTROVERSIAL Vauxhall Motors striker Paul Taylor is facing a lengthy ban from the game after testing positive for cocaine.

The 21-year-old, who is currently partway through a six-month loan deal at Chester City, failed a random drugs test at the League Two club’s training ground on October 6.

Taylor was found to have traces of cocaine in a urine sample provided to FA and UK Sport officials. He has until today to inform the FA whether he would like them to carry out a test on his ‘B’ sample – provided on the same day.

If found guilty by the FA of taking a banned substance, Taylor will be hit with a ban.

Vauxhall say they have had no meaningful dialogue with Chester over the positive test, which is the latest in a long line of disciplinary problems Liverpool-based Taylor has experienced while on loan at the Deva Stadium.

He was suspended by City earlier this month for failing to turn up for a match at Gillingham. It was the third time this season he had missed an away game.

Motors vice-chairman Steve McInerney this week accused Chester of keeping his club in the dark over Taylor’s problems.

He said: “Chester have our numbers but we have heard nothing. We have attempted to contact Chester a number of times but no-one will return our calls.

“I have spoken to Taylor and he is still getting to grips with the situation. I have advised him to consider his options carefully, but I find Chester City’s conduct in this matter unprofessional.”

There is an agreement in place for Chester to sign Taylor from Vauxhall on a permanent deal worth £30,000 in January. According to Chester owner Stephen Vaughan, that deal is now in doubt.

Vaughan said: “We have taken legal advice and our proposed permanent transfer of the player in the January window will not now materialise. I think it is fairly obvious why.”

Chester managing director Bob Gray added: “We’ve given him more chances than a dog on a Monopoly board.

“His discipline is totally unacceptable. We’ve given him two or three months’ grace to turn it around, but he hasn’t done so. You can only take so much.”

However, Motors vice-chairman McInerney remains in the dark over Taylor’s future.

He said: “We keep reading Taylor has been sent back to us. He has not.

“Chester have done nothing formally which would change the transfer agreement we have in place. We will be taking more advice from the FA and our legal representatives this week but at the moment the agreement is still binding.”

Taylor – a former Manchester City trainee – was spotted by Chester playing for Vauxhall in Blue Square North last season. He has made 10 appearances for City this season.
