EQUESTRIANISM: BECKY Schofield and her horse Pepsi have proved quite a double act in their first season together.
They banished the winter blues with success in two sections of the same championships at Bold Heath Equestrian Centre.
Becky, 13, from Widnes carried off the 75cm and 85cm classes at the centre's Winter Indoor Champ-ionships.
The championships were decided over 10 events with the rider accumulating most points being deemed the overall champion.
Becky, who attends Tower College in Rainhill, has been riding since the age of six but this was her first competitive year of riding her own horse.
In the final event of the series, Becky had to ensure she and Pepsi, who is 14.2 hands and stabled at Burtonwood Riding School, finished in the first three to clinch the 75cm class.
She went clear in the first round and finished runnerup against the clock to secure overall victory.
Becky, who is a Haydock Pony Club member, went one better in the 85cm competition by not only gaining overall honours but also triumphing on the day.
These were excellent results for Becky who was up against between 20 and 30 riders from all over the North West in her first such competition.
She now looks forward to the summer season which will see her compete in events throughout the region in the 85cm and 95cm classes.
