DELAMERE racer Andy Meyrick will be gunning for glory in this weekend’s Blancpain Endurance Series event at Silverstone.

Fresh from driving the radical DeltaWing to a podium finish in the American Le Mans Series, the 27-year-old will get behind the wheel of the McLaren 12C GT3 car, backed by the iconic Gulf Racing.

He will be joined in the three-hour race by Gulf Racing team-mate and co-owner Mike Wainwright, who accompanied him when the duo took part in the season opener at the Monza circuit in Italy.

Prior to departing for this weekend’s event, which will take place on the full Grand Prix circuit, Meyrick hosted An Evening With Gulf Racing at the McLaren Manchester showroom in Knutsford.

The centrepiece of the event was the 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo McLaren 12C GT3 supercar, complete with racing livery.

Meyrick explained to guests in a Q&A session his preferences for racing without electronic driving aids and his hunger to be fighting at the front of GT fields instead of facing an upward struggle to be a backmarker in Formula One.

Looking ahead to the race, Meyrick said: “I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the McLaren 12C GT3.

“It’s a fantastic car which we tested at Silverstone earlier this year – it’ll be interesting to see how competitive it is here with such a strong grid alongside us.”

The Blancpain Endurance Series consists of five events, including the 24 Hours of Spa in Belgium.

Silverstone plays host to the second round and the race begins at 2.50pm on Sunday.

Britain’s biggest car racing championship heads to Oulton Park next month as the Dunlop British Touring Car title battle heats up.

The action takes place at the Cheshire circuit over the weekend of June 8/9.

The three BTCC races on the Sunday are supported by a busy programme of action from the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Ginetta GT Supercup, Ginetta Juniors, Renault Clio Cup UK and Formula Ford.

Tickets are available from £26, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For further information, call 0843 453 9000 or visit www.oultonpark.co.uk.
