THE Dave's of Middlewich KO Trophy at Meadow Bank last Saturday was won by in-form Alan Birchall, drawn at the top end, putting 11lb 1oz 8dr in his net for top spot, writes JOHN STUBBS.

Arthur Lacey was second off the next peg with 9lb 6oz 8dr and Barry Stevens took third with 7lb 6oz one peg down.

Another in-form angler, Terry Kettle, took top spot on The Flash Fishery open last Saturday, drawn on peg 59 he took 21lb 1oz for an easy win from Kenny Taylor with 10lb 7oz and Brent Pierpoint 6lb 15oz in second and third.

At the Winsford Veterans meet on the Marina, the Red Lion saw Cliff Bratt take 8lb to win the Marina section from Colin Abbot 7lb 2oz and Brian Bill was third with a level 7lb. Ernie Ayers took the Red Lion length with 13lb 15oz, second spot was filled by Peter Wakefield with 7lb 13oz and Alan Thompson 6lb 6oz.

The Northwich Open was won by Phillip Weaver (Chester Locker Tackle) with roach and skimmers taken on the pole and maggot for 13lb 13oz. Second spot was filled by Eddie Waddle. The Highfield rod had a net of similar fish for 13lb 3oz and Kevin Simpson (Vale Royal AC) had 11lb 8oz for third spot.

Thirty-four rods took part and on Sunday there were 10 anglers. Tony Mellor (Team Trafford) took 12lb 10z from team-mate Peter Leighton with 12lb 2oz and Colin Webb (Vale Royal) 11lb 1oz.

The Winsford Open last Wednesday was won by Eric Taylor with 11lb 10oz. Second spot was taken by Ernie Ayers with 11lb 5oz and Rod Fraser took third with 8lb 12oz. Jimmy Young was fourth with 8lb 1oz.

* For the second consecutive week, Terry Middleton went home on Wednesday with the top payout from Barnton and Frodsham AC's midweek match at Heesom's Pool.

Middleton netted roach, rudd and perch that weighed-in at 5-5-0. As in the previous week's match, there was a tie for second as Bob Foster and Mal Lightfoot both put 3-8-0 on the scales.

On Sunday, Heesom's Pool was also the venue for Round One of the club's six-match series for the Brown Cup. In first place on the day was Steve Walker with 5-5-7 of crucians, skimmers and roach, second was Alan Forster, who put together a net of crucians, rudd and perch that weighed 4-6-0, and the frame was completed by the consistent Mal Lightfoot with 3-3-8.
