A BELOW-PAR batting display ruined any chance Ellesmere Port had of beating Old Parkonians on Saturday.

The away side were bowled out for 156 in 47.5 overs, but Port did not get near their victory target.

They were skittled for just 80 in 29 overs, condemning them to a 76-run defeat in the Cheshire Alliance Division One clash.

Opener Nick Hitchell had top-scored for Parks in the first innings. He hit 45 and was backed up by Mark Reed (35) further down the order.

Gareth Boys was the pick of the bowlers for Ellesmere Port, taking 4-31 from 12.5 overs.

But in reply, the home side did not get anywhere near the 157 runs they needed for victory.

Chris Beckett bagged 4-24.

On Saturday, the Port travel to take on an Appleton side who are just two places above them in the table.

In Division Three on Saturday, Capenhurst (92ao) went down to a 115-run loss at Haslington 2nds (207-7dec).
