ANDREW Clague led West Cheshire AC’s contingent home in the Helena Tipping Memorial 10k Road Race at Wrexham.

The distance runner clocked 36 minutes and 38 seconds to secure 14th place overall and fifth spot in the over-35 age category.

He was followed home by Thomas Atherton, who achieved 34th position overall and second spot in the over-50 age category, with a time of 37:59.

Brian Beattie secured second place in the over-60 age group and 147th position overall, with a time of 46:21.

Charles Thackray posted a time of 52:26 to earn 228th position and 12th spot in the over-60 age group.

And Mary Radford was the final West Cheshire runner home, finishing 280th overall and 13th in the over-60 age group, with a time of 59:57.

West Cheshire youngsters have won places in this year’s under 13s UK ranking lists.

Alice Jennings established eighth position in the girls’ high jump list, after achieving a clearance of 1.50m.

Michael Willis secured 14th position in the U13 boys’ high jump list after clearing a best height of 1.51m.

Matthew Spencer is 19th in the boys’ shot rankings, after hitting a best distance of 10.04m.

Entries are still being accepted for the Cheshire County Cross-Country Championships to be held at Forest Park, Birchwood, Warrington, on Saturday, January 5.

Anyone wanting to enter the event – for members from under 11s right through to veterans – can contact cross-country secretary Mike Lamb on 0151 355 2520.

Entries have closed for the Chester Round the Walls Race on Boxing Day, but West Cheshire AC members are being encouraged to volunteer as helpers on the day.

The popular annual main race will be complemented by a fun run on Chester Racecourse, which is scheduled to start at 10.15am and entry is on the day.

Tickets are now being sold for the West Cheshire AC annual prize-giving, which will take place at Chester Rugby Club on Friday, February 1 (7.30pm start). Tickets are available, priced £2.50, from West Cheshire AC officials on Tuesday and Thursday training nights at Cheshire Oaks High School, Ellesmere Port.

West Cheshire AC is organising an indoor shot and high jump event at Cheshire Oaks High School sports hall for U13 and U15 boys and girls on Saturday, January 12 (1.30pm start).

Fixtures this weekend include the West Cheshire AC Christmas Cross- Country Handicap for all ages at Whitby Park, Ellesmere Port, on Sunday (11am start). Entry is a wrapped present to the value of £3 (seniors) and £2 (juniors).
