School Sport

More than 250 school children took part in a tag rugby competition at Hare Lane.

Chester RUFC’s home ground was the venue for the Chester School Sport Partnership’s annual Tag Rugby Megafest, for primary school pupils in Year 3 and Year 4.

The pupils started off with a skills session, which included lessons on passing, tagging, positioning and running. They then took the skills into a games situation.

Students from Christleton High School helped referee the matches.

Claire Smedley, of the Chester SSP, said “It was great to see so many children take part.

“One school team even performed their own version of the Haka, getting into the spirit of the Rugby World Cup.”

Hockey

It’s not easy to keep a clean sheet in the National League as Deeside Ramblers found to their cost when they travelled to Sheffield Hallam and conceded four times in a 4-1 defeat.

Trailing 3-1 at the break, Ramblers left themselves far too much to do and had a single Ben Lamont strike to cheer.

In the Veterans National Knockout, the Ramblers faced old rivals Chester and recorded a fine 3-1 thanks to Mike Halewood, Mike Verity and Hedley Bollard.

Martial Arts

Over three hundred Ju Jitsu martial artists plus family and friends from all over the country descend on Broughton Wings Sports and Social Club Sports facility for the annual 2015 Bushido Academy Northern Championships
