Rugby league club Chester Gladiators’ preparations for the new season have been aided with new training equipment thanks to sponsors Ungerer.

The Sealand Road based company donated funds to pay for new tackle pads, bags and balls for the club’s junior and senior teams to help bring them success in the North West Men’s League.

Lee Joyner, team manager for Chester Gladiators, said: “The club is expanding so it’s great having the new equipment as it’s really helpful for when we are training our teams.

“We have tough competition as a fairly new team here in the north west and want our players to be able to play to the best of their abilities and having the right gear is part of that.

“It’s good to be able to have some financial support so we are able to do this to give all of our the teams the best start to the season we can.”

The club was formed in 2008 and plays out of The Cheshire County Sports Club in Upton with two senior teams and a thriving Mini Gladiators section for for children aged between four and 11.

This month the club has announced the launch of new sessions for children aged from two, which will provide a fun introduction to the sport using sponge balls indoors to develop their skills.

Grahame Hackney, general manager of Ungerer’s flavour division said: “I’m a big rugby fan and a former rugby league player myself so when we heard about the club’s appeal we were keen to help.

“We have lots of workers with young families working for us so being able to support a club that their children and others in the local community can be involved with is something we’ve been very pleased to do.

“Sport is such an essential part of growing up for kids and the club plays a vital role which is why we wanted to support them and hope to continue to do so in the future. We hope the team has a really good season.”
