BODY BUILDING: A CREWE bodybuilder is bowing out at the top.

Graham Porter brought the curtain down on a competitive career of more than 25 years by winning the Over 40s British Masters title at Briley Hill.

'I'm 55 now and it has been a tiring six months, keeping myself in top condition. This will be my last year of competing but it's nice to go out on a high by winning a title.'

Graham, who acts as a mentor to budding bodybuilders at Grays Gym in Nantwich Road, Crewe, has enjoyed an excellent final year in competition.

In addition to his British Masters title, he has also won the NABBA English Masters and the Over 40s and 50s section of a Mr Universe Masters qualifier at Wigan.

'I got into bodybuilding because I wanted to change my lifestyle. I needed to get a grip and bodybuilding gave me a goal. It helped to motivate me and helped me to look after myself

'I've had highs and lows but that's the same in all sports. I will now concentrate on helping the young lads we have at the gym to come through and we've got two or three who should be ready to take part in beginners' competitions fairly soon.'

Graham is also happy to pass on his knowledge to any bodybuilder.

'I have 28 years of experience which I am willing to pass on for free.

'If anyone wants to talk to me about how to get into the sport or wants nutritional advice, they are welcome to call me.'
