Fighting for their country took on a whole new meaning for a dynamic duo from Broughton when they took part in the World Martial Arts Organisation world championships.

Instructor Julia Thomas and student Carl Ash from the Combat Wings Martial Arts School based at Broughton Wings Sports and Social Club have just returned from Rugby where they represented Wales at the first ever World Martial Arts Organisation world championships.

Representatives from countries across the world, including teams from the USA, Australia, South Africa and Canada, competed in a variety of disciplines including kata, creative forms, musical forms, full contact kickboxing, K1, points fighting and continuous fighting.

Carl achieved an impressive silver medal in continuous fighting with a return to the sport after a number of years away from kickboxing and Julia was rewarded with a bronze in the ladies points fighting division.
