BREAM catches led the way in the first round match of Barnton and Frodsham AC's series for the Appleton Thorn AC Cup on the River Weaver at Anderton.

Heading the field was Trevor Jones, peg 48, who landed seven bream to 3lbs plus skimmers for 18-13-0. Second was Wayne Percival on peg 41 with 14-7-0. Chris Hargadon was third with 11-15-0.

The action moved to the Oak Tree length of the Weaver for the first match in the club's Wednesday Evening Series.

Maximum points on the night went to Timmy Wright on peg 437 with a fine net of 28-8-0 despite breaking his landing net while attempting to land a 5lb-plus bream which then escaped!

Peter Knight on peg 433 got 25-15-0 to claim second place and the frame was completed by Calvin Tagg, peg 429, with a mixed bag of 12-12-0.

On Friday there was a small turnout of only seven juniors for their opening match of the season on the Junior Cistern.

At the end of the contest the scales were unable to separate Shane Bellis and Jay Spence, both returning 4-4-8, in the youngest section.

In the 13-16 years section, Christian Harris put on a fine display to get 8-6-0, giving him a runaway victory.

The club's seniors were on the Saltersford stretch of the Weaver on Sunday. Top spot went to Terry Archer with 10-6-0.

Barnton & Frodsham AC is holding a four-hour match on Sunday at Heesom's Pool to raise money for St Luke's Hospice. The match is open to non-members who can book a £6 entry ticket from Peter Moore on 01606 76723.
