RISING star Sam Pickering will be one of a number of Deva Boxing Academy fighters on a blockbuster Chester Racecourse bill later this month.

The event takes place on Friday, June 21 but first up for Pickering is a date with his country.

He will represent Wales this weekend at the Great Britain Youth Championships.

Pickering has been away training in Sheffield with the Great Britain squad under the watchful eye of performance director Rob McCracken.

Pickering will be joined at the Chester Racecourse show by the likes of Jack Rogers, Mark Sullivan, Jamie Moss, Ashley Appleby, Joe Rigg, Kalid Mahdi and Darren Seago.

Mike Ashford will also feature – and his fight has been sponsored by Neal Thomas of DTS Scaffolding Services based at River Lane, Saltney.

Ashford and Moss were in action at the recent Llay ABC show.

Moss was up first in a 57kg bout against Southpaw Matt McManus of Wythenshawe Royal Oak & Baguley

Moss worked his awkward opponent throughout and was declared the unanimous points winner.

Ashford followed up with a 72kg contest against Llay’s Nick Roberts.

The fight was closely fought but unfortunately for Ashford the decision went the way of his opponent after a tough battle.

Deva Boxing Academy, based in Saltney, is looking for more sponsors for its Chester Racecourse show.
