A SALTNEY boxing club has celebrated another excellent season of achievement, with the Manchester’s super-bantamweight prospect Rhys Roberts on hand to present the year’s awards.

In only its third year of existence, the Deva Police ABC now boasts several champions, including Welsh senior stars Andy Wyn Jones and Joe Lovell.

Champion Ash Appleby was the main winner on presentation night, scooping the club’s Boxer of the Year and Best Club Performance, awarded for his fight against Vang Tsiri Mokos earlier in the year. Dougie McDonagh took the Boxers’ Boxer of the Year, while Daniel Evans was named Most Dedicated Boxer.

In the junior awards, Joe Rigg was named Boxer of the Year, with Jack Rogers and Sam Rigg given the Boxers’ Boxer awards. Rogers also got Best Club Performance, while Sam Rigg, along with Louis Rigg and Connor Beattie, were voted Most Improved. Carl and Joe Jackson won the prize for Most Dedicated, with Jake Cruise and Yasmin Bilslam named Best Newcomers.

The 250 in attendance at Broughton’s Wings Club were treated to an appearance by highly-touted Roberts, who is an ambassador for Hatton Promotions.
