PAUL Butler will return to Liverpool for his second fight as a professional next month – and he could hardly be in better shape.

The 22-year-old from Great Sutton has been booked to appear at the Liverpool Olympia on Saturday, April 2, when home favourite Derry Mathews will defend his IBO international lightweight title.

Butler, nicknamed the Baby-Faced Assassin, made his pro debut in the same city last December, seeing off Sheffield’s Anwar Alfadli, and he can’t wait to step back into the ring.

He has been sparring with former Commonwealth champion Don Broadhurst at Anthony Farnell’s Manchester gym.

Butler’s dad, Paul Butler Senior, said: “Night and day, Paul has been destroying him. It’s a great yardstick of where we are with Paul.”

Butler, who will be fighting at light-flyweight, does not yet know who his opponent will be at the 1,200-capacity Olympia. Negotiations are ongoing while Butler continues to train hard for the big fight.

The youngster, one of the most highly-rated graduates of the Vauxhall Motors ABC gym in Little Sutton, penned a pro contract with promoter Frank Warren at the end of last year.

He hopes to fight twice next month, with another match-up likely to be arranged for the end of April.

Tickets for Butler’s fight at the Liverpool Olympia can be bought from the Vauxhall ABC gym or by calling Paul Butler Snr on 0151 200 2710.
