DEVA Police Community ABC’s boxing show at Airbus UK Broughton’s Wings Club drew a capacity crowd and delivered a night of top amateur action.
Guests included Saltney Mayor Ann Lloyd and former WBU light welterweight world champion Shea Neary and they were treated to some fine displays .
Deva’s Sam Rigg got the show off to a cracking start with a technically precise victory over M Hart of Down End ABC.
Clubmate Connor Beattie then made it two out of two as he saw off Welshpool ABC’s Dave Pritchard.
In the only girls fight on the card, Deva’s Yasmin Bilsland was out-pointed by A Baker of Down End but Joe Rigg won his bout with A O’Donnell after the Sutton ABC fighter retired with a shoulder injury.
Daniel Evans was tested by Ardwick ABC fighter A Atherton but he kept in the hunt to snatch a points win.
Welsh champion Joe Lovell then stepped out for his first senior fight against Astley ABC’s J Turner.
Lovell posted a unanimous victory as he continued to build his reputation as a fearsome opponent.
Deva had invited some boxers from Genk ABC in Belgium to take part in the show and home fighter Ash Appleby tasted what the continent had to offer as he faced Belgian-Greek opponent Evangelos Tsirinokes.
A very fluid fighter, Tsirinokes combinations flowed but Appleby hit back and both fighters rained powerful punches on the other, only for Appleby to lose a points decision by a majority.
Deva club’s Dave McDonagh won a scrappy fight against Newtown’s L Harding and Mark Sullivan claimed a majority points win over Llay’s L Cavanagh, coming from behind in the third round to convince two of the three judges that he had done enough.
