Chris Goodwin will fight for the WBF world lightweight title in Chester on August 2 when he headlines a Fight Options-promoted show.

Goodwin out-pointed tough Irish veteran Oisin Fagan for the WBF intercontinental strap in April at the Northgate Arena and will contest the vacant world belt at the same venue on August 2.

Barrow-based Goodwin, 25, will face Georgian number one Kakhaber Avetisian, who has 34 wins from 58 fights, as he looks to win a second world title.

Friend and training partner Paul Economides will be action too, with George Gachechiladze standing between him and the WBF international super bantamweight belt.

Economides will earn a shot at the WBF world title if he can defeat the 27-year-old, who has scored 15 wins from 27 fights.

He had been preparing to face Gabor Molnar at the Northgate Arena on July 19 but the Hungarian withdrew.

“Basically my opponent has bottled the fight after seeing what I did to Kanalas,” said Economides, who lives in Vicars Cross.

“I fought Kanalas three weeks after Molnar. He got a split decision points win and then I went and stopped him in two.

“They’ve seen the video of that and his manager has called mine and said they don’t want the fight.”

Economides was undeterred and set his sights on Gachechiladze.

“He’s only 5ft 3ins but he’s stocky, powerful and he’s got a good knockout record so he would be coming to win,” said Economides, who has 14 wins from 19 contests.

“He’s ranked much higher than me in the world but that’s great because it means I will shoot up the rankings if I can beat him."
