TONIGHT'S P&A Morgan Cup final at War Memorial Club (7pm) is a battle of Runcorn & District Carlsberg-UK Association's old and new.

Well-established Grapes Inn A are off 55 against Manley, in their first season of league membership and handicapped 50.

It promises to be an intriguing confrontation between Section Three's top two sides - Manley being 16 chalks clear after last week's games.

Halton RBL A held third after a 172-126 win against Norton B.

Pavilions D dropped a place with their 141-168 home defeat by the tabletoppers.

Meanwhile, Matt Freeman is the toast after his victory in the Division Three Merit at Subscription on Thursday.

The Pavilions D player defeated Grapes A's Alf Russell 21-12 to take the title.

In the semi-finals, Russell comfortably overcame Alfie Baines 21-11, the latter having risen above an outstanding dis-play from youngster Josh Harrington to take their last-eight tie 21-20.

Eventual champion Freeman had been under the cosh in his last-four clash - trailing 19-17.

But opponent Arnie Ocego then sent two woods off the green.

Freeman went on to take the four chalks he needed for victory without further reply.

Section One has new leaders. Grapes B capitalised on their game in hand to go 87 chalks ahead of open-dated USC, now lying third.

Red Lion have moved into second place but have played one match more than others in the top three.

Section Two leaders Helsby C lost by just two chalks at Castle Park, in fourth, while second-placed Willow Brook comfortably disposed of visitors Subscription B, immediately below them, 172-140.

* Greens for the Jim Ainsworth Merit, a week tonight, have yet to be announced.
