A belated podium was the best result for the homegrown heroes at the opening round of this year's British GT championship at a sun-kissed Oulton Park.

Chester-born GT4 racer Jamie Stanley, who races for Fox Motorsport in the GT4 category of the championship, thought he had missed out on a top-three finish when team-mate Paul McNeilly's Ginetta was muscled out of third on the final corner of the second race.

But Stanley and McNeilly were later promoted to third after the GT4 rival pairing of Jamie Chadwick and Ross Gunn were excluded from second place. Earlier, the Fox Motorsport pair endured technical troubles in race one, denying them a top 10 finish.

Elsewhere, there was frustration for former Tarporley man Tom Oliphant in both GT3 events.

The Team LNT racer, who partners Rick Parfitt Jr in the Ginetta, was the victim of a chaotic first race when the safety car came out as the team were about to make a mandatory pitstop, relegating them to ninth after running third early on. The second race saw Oliphant spin and the car was later retired.

Chester-born Jamie Wall took his Lotus GT4 to 11th in race one and ninth in race two.
