ANGLING: BARRY Hawkswood came out on top in the Easter Sunday Ellesmere Port Royal British Legion AC match on the Meadow Pool at the Hampton Springs Fishery, writes BRIAN ROBERTS.

Taking all small carp for 19-6-0 gave him the edge over John Ryder with mainly barbel for 14-4-0, while Jimmy Grimes had carp and bits for 11-2-0.

Andy Thompson reeled in first place in the Wirral Borough Council AC match on Gorsty Hall Fishery near Congleton with a net of carp, crucians and orfe for 22-6-0.

Kenny Stuart had carp for 19-8-0 while his son James took crucians and roach for 18-0-0.

Alvin Hughes of Ellesmere Port included the top fish of the week in his catch on the Dearnford Hall Trout Fishery at Whitchurch in the shape of an 11-11-0 rainbow which fell to a black epoxy buzzer.

Mark Evans of Neston had a rod-bending session on the Burton Mere Fishery last week that included an 18-12-0 mirror carp, a 22-14-0 common carp plus a fully-scaled carp, all taken on Formula One bait.

Frank Cooke was up front in Thursday's open match on the Lingmere Fishery, with his mixed 46-6-0 topping Dave Randles snr with similar for 34-10-0 and Dave Lawrence with 27-8-0.

Sid Jones won their Saturday match with a carp-based 51-8-0 while Dave Randles snr took 43-8-0 and Dave Lawrence had 35-15-0.

The Willaston-based CSM team took the honours in the Crewe & District Winter League after Sunday's final match on the Shropshire Union canal.

They could only manage fifth place on the day but this proved more than enough to clinch overall victory, with Dave Ellis taking 11-0 of bits and George Cooke 8-0 of the same.

The Sensas Rod N'Reel team were again in the top half in Sunday's Heronbrook Fishery Winter League match and are 17th overall.

Top weighers on the day were Carl Fletcher with 31-0-0 of carp, Geoff Grantham with similar for 25-12-0 and Lee Saville with 22-12-0.

Rod N'Reel's Rob Denny landed second place in Sunday's open match on the Hampton Springs Fishery, taking a carp catch for 36-8-0.

Ellesmere Port members of the Chester Tackle Locker team were top weighers in Sunday's match in the Crewe & District Winter League on Sunday on the Wardle length of the Shropshire Union canal.

Best was Wayne Jevons with 12-0 of small stuff while Mike Beaumont had 15-0 and Chris Morris 12-0.
