THE Chester & District team secured plenty of medal wins at Saturday’s Cheshire Schools AA Track and Field Championships.

The top athletes from the area tested themselves against the best the rest of the county has to offer at Macclesfield.

Leading the gold rush for Chester were Matthew Pagan, Amy Williams and Kelly Baker, who all turned in eye-catching performances.

Pagan finished four seconds clear of his nearest rival to claim the intermediate boys’ 400m title, clocking 50.6 seconds.

For the girls team, Williams – a two-time English schools champion – was an emphatic winner in the intermediate girls long jump, leaping to 5.61m.

Baker’s 11.56m throw was easily enough for her to take the gold medal in the senior girls shot, ahead of West Cheshire AC club-mate Olivia Montez-Brown (representing Ellesmere Port).

The leading performers from Saturday’s championships will make up the Cheshire team which competes in the annual inter-counties Mason Trophy event in Birmingham this Saturday.
