HALTON and Frodsham Harriers accepted an invitation to compete in Sheffield.

The club sent under 11 and U13 teams to the Tom Pink relays and indoor Highland Games, staged at the English Institute of Sport.

They came up against strong competition from clubs from Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

The Tom Pink relays see youngsters run relays to try to beat the times of some of Britain’s great distance runners, like Paula Radcliffe and Dame Kelly Holmes.

Representing the Harriers’ U11 girls were Elouise Angus, Lydia Case, Emelia Poval Clarke, Jorja Flanagan, Rachel Hardman, Holly Hickey, Molly Anne Kyte, Maddie Lee, Skye Marsh, Ellie McCool, Katherine Neil, Bethany Sutton and Abby Watling.

In the ‘Keeping up with Paula’ relays, the A team were placed fifth in two minutes and 58.9 seconds and the B string sixth in 3:00.4.

In the over and under relay, the A team were the gold medal winners, taking first place in 1:12.2.

In the long jump, Holly was second (1.95m) and Skye took the silver medal in the triple jump (5.33m).

In the Highland steps, Emelia was first with 27pts and Elouise third (59pts). Elouise won the caber event.

The Harriers’ U11 boys squad comprised Jamie Cartwright, Ben Guttridge, Scot Hampson, Max Hardy, Adam Hodgkinson, Callum Herod, Tom Hurst, Owen Jones, Ben Lane and Jamie Southerton.

The ‘Keeping up with Paula’ relay saw a fifth-place finish in the final, the A team finishing in 3:00.2.

The boys’ A and B teams were fifth and sixth in the over and under relay, clocking 1:20.7 and 1:26.6.

In the field events, Adam won the long jump with 1.90m.

In the Highland Steps, Ben Gutteridge was third and he also claimed fourth in the caber. Max was third in the javelin with 16m.

The U13 girls were represented by Chelsey Fairclough, Alex Hurst, Eleanor Jones, Abbey Lindon, Natasha Treharne and Ellie Tron.

The ‘Chasing Steve’ relay saw the A team taking a third place in the heats, in 4:10.8. In the 3 x 2.5-lap relays, the teams came fourth (5:01.4) and 10th (5:24.7).

Highlights from the field events saw Ellie take fourth in the long jump in 1.95m while Abbey was fifth in the shot put with 5.68m.

Jacob Birtles, James Ennis, Daniel Fennalon, Chris Larkin, Tom Price, Luke Southerton and Luca Tron contested the U13 boys events, taking a second in the final of the ‘Chasing Steve’ relay in 3:44.8.

They were first and third in the 3 x 2.5-lap relay, clocking 4:26.4 and 4:36.5.

In the field events, Luca won the long jump with 2.20m and Chris was second with 2.10m.

Luke Southerton was first in the Highland steps and Tom won the shot put with 10.42m.

In the weight for height event, Tom was first and Luca second.
