ATHLETES from Chester enjoyed a golden day at the Cheshire Schools Track and Field Championships.

There were medals galore from pupils representing the district’s schools at the Macclesfield event on Saturday.

Those who claimed a top-two finish have earned qualification for this Saturday’s Mason Trophy inter-counties meeting at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, where they will represent Cheshire Schools.

Yousef Khalifa, of Queen’s Park High, powered his way to victory in the junior boys triple jump with 10.71m, while Tom Kellett, of Bishop Heber, hit a winning distance of 37.78m in the junior boys hammer.

Christleton High’s Cameron Clark launched the junior boys javelin to 39.30m for second position, and Alex Hailes (Bishop Heber) clocked 15.8 seconds for second position in the inter boys 100m hurdles.

Matthew Spencer (King’s) hit 12.05m for second place in the inter boys shot, while Heidi Williams (Queen’s) secured second spot in the junior girls 200m in 28.9 seconds, and Aimee Hargreaves (Queen’s) claimed second spot in the inter girls 800m in two minutes, 27.2 seconds.

Upton High’s Tessa McCormick rounded the inter girls 3,000m in a winning time of 11:01.5, while Alice Jennings (Chester Catholic High) finished second in her 300m hurdles in 47.7 seconds.

Victoria Anderson (Queen’s) achieved a winning clearance of 1.66m in the inter girls high jump, and Upton’s Danielle Erskine delivered a winning leap of 4.85m in the inter girls long jump.

Kelly Baker (Bishops’ High) bagged a victory in the junior girls shot with a put of 11.25m.

Pupils representing Ellesmere Port and Neston also secured Cheshire places.

Neston High’s Steve Jones and Jenni Potter blasted their way to success. Steve sprinted to the inter boys 100m title with a time of 11.3 seconds, and Jenni secured the inter girls hammer crown with 24.30m.

Laura Rigby, of Whitby High in Ellesmere Port, sprinted her way to a winning time of 13.0 seconds to secure the junior girls 100m title. And Olivia Montez-Brown (Ellesmere Port Catholic High) grabbed glory in the junior girls 75m hurdles with 11.8 seconds.

Other pupils crowned Cheshire champions included Robbie Dagnall (West Cheshire College), who won the senior boys 400m in 50.4 seconds, Gemma Mayled (Upton), who won the senior girls 1,500m in 6:11.8, and Danielle Bentley (Whitby High), who won the senior girls javelin title with 42.92m. Ellesmere Port’s Andrew Perry rounded the senior boys 800m in 2:12.7 for second position.

West Cheshire AC’s Emily Clarke, representing Halton, finished second in the senior girls long jump (4.91m), and she was also second in the senior girls triple jump (10.49m).
