CHRIS Goodwin headed West Cheshire AC’s contingent at the Northern Cross Country Championships at Witton Park on Saturday.

Goodwin, who clinched an Under 17s men’s 1,500 silver medal the previous weekend at the Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield, finished 62nd in a time of 23:34mins.

He was joined at the Blackburn event by Mark Hearn, who finished the U13s boys race in 13:31 for 137th position.

Dave Alexander was the first of four West Cheshire members to complete the senior men’s race. He negotiated the undulating course in 46:18 for 94th place, ahead of Andrew Clague (177th in 49:54), Jeff Kettle (183rd in 50:05) and Dave Hough (485th in 61:55).

West Cheshire AC’S track and field campaign has now taken shape following the Cheshire Track and Field League AGM staged last week.

The Chester and Ellesmere Port-based club will kick-off the 2010 season with a Cheshire Track and Field League match at Bebington Oval, on Sunday, April 18.

West Cheshire’s Northern League senior squad will blast from their starting blocks on Saturday, May 1, with a first-round match at their home track at Stanney Oaks.

The club’s National Young Athletes League Premier Division campaign starts the following day, Sunday, May 2, at Wigan’s Robin Park Stadium.

West Cheshire AC have qualified for all six age group finals of the North West Sportshall League, to be held at Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes, on Sunday, March 7.

Entries will open for this year’s Chester Half Marathon on the afternoon of Monday, February 15.

The popular event will take place on Sunday, May 16, with a 9.30am start. Entries cost £16 for affiliated club members, £18 for unaffiliated runners, and there will be no entries taken on the day of the race.
