MEMBERS of Rivacre AC travelled to Shrewsbury on Saturday to compete at Spring Lea Fishery.

Top rod on Trevor’s Pool was Bob Thelwall (21lbs 12oz), who drew peg 1. He took mainly common and mirror carp of up to 4lbs with meat on the pole along with a few ide.

A 16lbs 8oz haul of carp and ide fell to Ian Simpson from peg 10 with pellet.

Elton angler Rob Dickenson weighed in third just ahead of Ellesmere Port’s Dave Grimes. Peg 19 provided Dickenson with 13lbs 10oz, taken at 14.5m on the pole with pellet. Grimes was only a couple of ounces behind on peg 40, bagging 13lbs 8oz.

Chester Lakes at Dodleston was the venue for Saturday’s Wirral Borough AC match. Fishing at a depth of 12ft with pellet at 10m on the pole, Dave Gentile topped with a good number of small F1s weighing 24lbs 14oz.

Three good carp came to the net for second-placed Rick Keeley as well as further small tench, silvers and carp for a close 23lbs 12oz.

Sonne Cooper’s second fish of the match was a super 5lbs carp which helped him on his way to grabbing third place. Sonne used corn close in at 4m feeding corn finishing with 12lbs 12oz. Fourth place went to Keith Wilkinson with 12lbs 4oz of small carp and tench taken at 6m.

Les Jones put in a good performance in Sunday’s Peg One AC match at Hampton Springs Fishery. The Ellesmere Port angler weighed in with 40lbs 8oz of carp and barbel for third place on Long Island.

The only anglers to better this were Jason Jones and Rob Smith. Jason won the match by some margin with a super 70lbs 8oz. Smith weighed in just ahead of Les Jones with exactly 43lbs.

Ellesmere Port ace Steve Dean was in action at Weston Pools on Sunday. He put in a great performance for victory in the Sunday open match at the Oswestry fishery.

Drawn on peg eight on the Canal Lake, Dean used caster fished shallow and first at 10m, picking up carp in his swim. After a change to fishing close in at 5m, he bagged a total of 74lbs for the win.

Coarse angler Barry Hawthorne bagged one of the best weights of the week at Cheshire Fishing, Tattenhall.

Hawthorne, from Ellesmere Port, alternated between pellet, corn and meat netting carp of up to 10lbs, roach to 1lb and some skimmers totalling around 65lbs.

There was also success for local fly angler Eddie Evans at the Tattenhall fishery.

Evans fished a brown rubber-legged daddy longlegs deep on the bottom for some great fish. His best trout was an immense 11lbs 3oz rainbow. This was followed by a 5lbs 6oz specimen and four other trout which he returned.
