SAUGHALL Colts enjoyed an afternoon to remember at the Exacta Stadium as reward for being handed the FA Charter Standard Club Award.

The thriving Chester & District Junior League outfit were Chester FC’s guests of honour for Saturday’s big derby clash against Witton Albion.

The Saughall youngsters, housed in the Evans Halshaw Stand, gave Neil Young’s side a fantastic backing in the first half before making their way on to the pitch at half-time to receive the sought-after award from Blues stars Michael Wilde, Iain Howard and Ashley Williams.

The FA Charter Standard programme was established to help clubs to improve standards of coaching, administration, player development and safeguarding children.

Saughall Colts were given the award by the Cheshire County FA after raising their game in these areas and leading the field in promoting best football practice, both on and off the pitch.

Saughall Colts chairman Steve Richards said: “We’ve worked hard to get this and it’s a great honour for the club, and particularly the players, their families and coaches.

“I would like to thank Chester FC for hosting us and presenting the award. To give our players the honour of being presented with the award at the stadium is something they will never forget.

“Maybe one day some of them will play on the same pitch for Chester FC. For most, though, it really is all about taking part in sport and enjoying the game.”

Saughall Colts have more than 100 players on their books, aged from five to 15, and run teams across seven age groups.

Simon Gerrard, the Cheshire County FA development manager, said: “The Cheshire County FA is committed to raising the standards of football at grassroots level and the dedication and achievements of clubs like Saughall Colts makes this possible.”
