WAVERTON Primary School’s Year 5 and 6 girls football team showed incredible coolness under pressure to be crowned Cheshire champions.

Winners of the Chester tournament before Christmas, the aces continued where they left off at the county finals in Crewe.

They won three of their five group games, not conceding a single goal, before beating Wistaston Green Primary School in the semi-finals on penalties.

That success set up a showdown with local rivals Overleigh St Mary’s.

More spot-kicks were needed as the final finished 1-1 after extra-time.

An amazing 17 rounds of penalties followed and eventually it was Waverton who emerged triumphant to book their place in the North of England finals in Leeds next month.

Chester & District Girls moved top of the Cheshire Girls Under 14s Champions League with a 9-0 victory at Halton Girls.

The new leaders opened the scoring after 26 seconds and played some intelligent football on a difficult pitch.

Chester & District Girls are looking to strengthen for next season ahead of the move into U16s football. Contact club chairman Russell Rourke on 01244 390511 or 07740 595832 for more information.
