WAVERTON Arrows, led by man of the match Paddy McCleland, made the perfect start to their Chester & District Junior League Under 9s Cup A campaign with a 3-1 home victory over previously unbeaten Newton Athletic on Saturday.

Blacon Youth got off to a flyer in Cup B with a 6-0 triumph at home to Newton Athletic Eagles given to them by hat-trick hero Jack Lockley, Aiden Fields (2) and MoM Kian Jones.

Vicars Cross Dynamos won 5-0 at Castrol Rangers but Malpas & District Reds lost 2-1 at home to Vauxhall Motors Zafira despite George Smith’s strike and a MoM display from Callum Southall.

There were home wins for Waverton Jets and Waverton Rockets in the opening round of Shield A matches. The Jets beat Malpas & District Blacks 3-0 while the Rockets edged out Vicars Cross Dynamos Colts 3-2.

Helsby (Oliver Rogers) lost 4-1 at home to Park Saints.

Tarvin Athletic (William Brighton 2, Sam Grinter 2, MoM Reuben Hewish 2, Joseph Jenks, Robbie White) laid down a marker in Shield B by storming to an 8-0 success at Waverton Strikers.

Waverton Bullets were 3-2 winners at Castrol Athletic.
