Hundreds of schoolchildren descended on Deeside Ramblers Hockey Club for their annual primary schools festival.

More than 30 teams from 20 different schools visited the Tarporley club with 350 children taking part.

Schools were split into two groups dependent on the number of pupils, with smaller schools like Huxley and Bickerton in one group and larger schools like Tattenhall and Tarporley in the other. In the smaller schools group semi-finals, Eaton defeated Acton and Ashton Hayes knocked out Manley A.

Eaton lost out 1-0 in the final as Ashton Hayes won the festival for the first time.

Abbey Gate defeated Tarvin and Tarporley B overcame Tattenhall in the larger schools group semi-finals. In a nerve-racking final, Tarvin and Tarporley B drew, with the latter winning on penalty strokes.

Deeside Ramblers stalwart John Heath said: “It is marvellous to see so many children enjoying playing hockey.”
