Craig Mahon and Gareth Roberts have both been declared fit for revitalised Chester FC's trip to Welling United this weekend.

Back-to-back home wins over Kidderminster Harriers and Lincoln City have propelled the Blues to just outside the top half and manager Steve Burr will demand more of the same at Park View Road on Saturday (3pm).

Winger Mahon and left-back Roberts were withdrawn midweek with minor knocks but the pair will keep their places in what will almost certainly be an unchanged line-up.

Burr called the first-half performance in the 4-0 win against Lincoln the best spell of football the Blues have produced since he took charge last January as his team blew the Imps apart to score three times inside 25 minutes.

He joked afterwards the watching Welling scout would run out of ink as he noted down the dangers Chester would pose.

"Our performance was excellent and some of the chances that we created we should have had more really but that's the type of football that gets me excited and it was a pleasure to watch," said the manager.

"Some of the goals were excellent as well and that's the type of performance I enjoy."

Burr this week hailed the impact of January signings Brad Abbott, Matty Hughes, Oliver McBurnie and Ryan Higgins, and also praised the likes of John Rooney and Sean McConville, who have stepped up to the plate in light of in the increased competition for places.

Centre-back Matty Brown (hamstring) and midfielder Kingsley James (suspended) remain sidelined but it says something about the current depth of the squad that the absence of two of this season's best performers has barely been felt.

It has been a tough period for Welling, who have still to register a win under new manager Jody Brown.

Jamie Day quit as manager after five-and-a-half years in charge to drop into the Conference South with neighbours Ebbsfleet United, who have Football League ambitions.

Their two leading scorers have also moved on, 11-goal midfielder Harry Beautyman going to Peterbrough United and Tyrone Marsh, who netted eight on loan from Oxford United, following Day to Ebbsfleet on a permanent deal.

Brown came in from Grays Athletic of the Ryman League but has taken just one point from his first five league games as the Wings have been dragged into danger.

Two weeks without a game has given Brown, who signed five players as soon as the transfer window opened, time to further tinker with his squad.

Experienced midfielder Karl Duguid and forward Anthony Jeffrey arrived this week, and Brown thinks the pair can help his team get back on track.

“Anthony has been in at a league club for a long time trying to earn a pro deal, so is in good condition, and has everything we need in terms of his attacking attributes," said Brown.

“He comes here with a point to prove, he’s hungry to succeed and since he has been training with us, he has adapted very quickly. I think he will prove to be a match-winner.

“Karl has huge experience and only recently left his role as first-team player-coach at Colchester.

“He knows his way around both relegation battles and promotion charges. He’s an extremely fit person, knows the game from many different perspectives and is versatile enough to play in three or four different positions."
