Nine-man Motors were undone by two first-half penalties and two red cards as they fell to a battling defeat against the high-flying Bucks on Saturday.

Goals from Tom Hannigan and Steven Tames were not enough to salvage anything from a game where both Andy Nicholas and Danny Fearnehough saw red.

A quartet of former Chester players put Motors to the sword as two first-half spot-kicks from Sean Clancy and second half goals from Matty McGinn and Shaun Whalley claimed the spoils for the visitors.

Motors fell behind at Rivacre Park on 16  minutes when Bucks striker Andy Owens was hauled down by Hannigan in the area. Clancy converting the spot-kick.

It was 2-0 on 37 minutes, Clancy again the scorer from the spot after Nicholas picked up a second yellow for clipping  Whalley.

A Hannigan header reduced the arrears and gave Motors hope just before the break but a McGinn volley on 63 minutes restored the visitor’s advantage.

Motors rallied and Tames side-footed home on 80 minutes but Fearnehough saw red minutes later  for a second yellow card before the Skrill North promotion chasers wrapped up the points in injury time through ex-Chester City and Accrington Stanley midfielder Whalley.

Motors coach Gary Martindale said: “The lads gave a good account of themselves and I think the scoreline flattered them and we’ll never know what would have happened if it was 11 v 11 for 90 minutes’.

Motors have secured former loanee Steven Tames, 22, on a permanent deal  following the striker’s release from Skrill Premier side Southport.

Motors are next in Skrill North action on Saturday, March 1 (3pm) when they travel to North Ferriby United.
