Barnsley ensured there was never any prospect of an FA Cup shock with a professional and controlled performance.

Chester should look back on their run to the second round with a great deal of pride, but the feeling pre-game their big chance to reach the third round had passed at Oakwell proved well founded.

Dale Jennings, a player with a Sunday league appearance and a Premier League touch, scored twice and Kane Hemmings got the other as the Tykes booked a third round meeting with Middlesbrough.

There had been little between the teams in South Yorkshire nine days earlier, the Blues unlucky not to make the third round at the first time of asking.

Steve Burr made one change from the 1-1 draw at AFC Telford United in the FA Trophy with Rhys Oates unable to face his parent club so Craig Hobson replaced him up front.

It had been five games without a win for the Tykes, whose 3-1 defeat at Walsall last time out sucked them closer towards the dangerzone.

Injuries have been a problem for Danny Wilson too with centre back Lewin Nyatanga the latest to be ruled out.

Peter Ramage, Nicky Bailey and Kane Hemmings came into the team to replace Nyatanga, Brad Abbott and Marcello Trotta.

Although the concerns of the SAG and the BT Sport cameras had impacted on the crowd, the game still had that special FA Cup feeling although there was a concern the chances of an upset were lower second time around.

With the rain teeming down, the game took 10 minutes or so to settle down but the Tykes soon started to take control.

Matty Brown did well to cutout a dangerous through pass and Luke Berry made a sweet connection after a corner had been headed out but his shot was blocked.

Chester hadn't got going with too many passes going astray and paid the price when the Tykes took the lead on 16 minutes.

A short free kick in midfield found Ramage and although Matty Brown blocked his shot, Hemmings, whose dad Tony had a spell with the Blues, collected the ball and rifled past Jon Worsnop.

Craig Mahon, the star man at Oakwell, tried to spark the Blues but it was an uphill battle and Barnsley looked a cut above.

Devante Cole created a great chance for Dale Jennings on 21 minutes but the ex-Tranmere Rovers man missed the mark with his curling attempt.

Craig Hobson was getting little change from Ramage and the Tykes were barely troubled although Kingsley James did screw a half chance wide.

Gareth Roberts and Matty Brown did well to keep the Tykes out and it needed a fine Worsnop save to prevent Conor Hourihane doubling the lead from 25 yards on 36 minutes.

Barnsley kept on coming with Reece Brown firing over when well placed and Jennings testing Worsnop's handling from distance.

Ross Turnbull in the other goal had been a spectator for most of the first half and the Blues would have been grateful to go in only one goal down.

Chester continued to find the going difficult after the restart with Jennings dragging a decent chance into the side netting as the Blues struggled for inspiration.

Mahon whipped over a tempting cross but Turnbull collected without too much trouble and another decent delivery from Michael Kay came to nothing.

Barnsley kept on threatening and Matty Brown blocked well from Jennings and a mass of bodies denied Hemmings.

On 63 minutes the Tykes got a second when Jennings curled a low shot around Worsnop from inside the area after possession had been given up in midfield.

Burr introduced teenager Ben Greenop to give his team another body up front but the Blues couldn't break the Tykes down.

Chester tried hard and managed to create a couple of half chances with Hobson unable to direct Gareth Roberts' cross on target and Matty Brown heading wide.

Barnsley sealed the win with a third goal on 88 minutes, Jennings showing his class as he twisted and turned three defenders and clipped the ball past Worsnop for his second.

Chester far from disgraced themselves but were second best throughout and the 3-0 scoreline was a fair reflection on the Tykes dominance.
