After the euphoria of Saturday, Chester FC came back down to earth with almighty bump as their inconsistent form continued with a 3-2 defeat at Barrow.

Despite the triumph over Wrexham being just three days ago, the Blues weren't able to muster another display of similar intensity and were undone by goals from Andy Haworth, Andy Cook and Niall Cowperthwaite and a dreary Holker Street.

Strikes from Jordan Chapell and Tom Shaw weren't enough as Chester slipped to 16 in the Vanarama National League.

Blues boss Steve Burr was forced to make two changes to the side that beat Wrexham, with Jordan Chapell replacing loanee James Roberts who was given compassionate leave following the death of his brother, and the derby day hero Kane Richards starting in place of Craig Hobson.

Things started well and the Blues took the lead just after the half hour mark at Holker Street when Chapell, handed a recall to the starting line-up after being on the bench against Wrexham, received a pass from John Rooney before making space for himself in the area and finding the bottom left of Joel Dixon's goal.

As on Saturday, Chester's lead didn't last long and, on 36 minutes, Haworth side-footed home from close range after being fed in by David Symington to restore parity.

Steve Burr would have hoped his Chester side would have emerged from the dressing room with renewed energy but they were caught napping just two minutes after the restart when Cook found space in the box to fire past Jon Worsnop for his ninth goal in 15 games this season.

But Chester rallied and levelled the contest through midfielder Shaw on 72 minutes who bagged his second goal in successive games when he pounced to stab home when Dixon spilled a Rooney cross.

But any hopes that the Blues could muster a winner were dashed when, just five minutes later, Cowperthwaite restored the Bluebirds' lead with a superb 25-yard effort that left Worsnop with no chance.
