Chester FC summer signing Johnny Hunt says that his first instinct was to look at when the cross-border derbies with Wrexham would be taking place after the release of the 2015/2016 Vanarama National League fixtures today.

Left-back Hunt, 24, signed a one-year deal with the Blues last month following a brief spell in League Two with Cambridge United. But it was his four-year spell with the Dragons that he is most noted for, making over 100 appearances for the Welsh club and scoring the winning penalty in their 2013 FA Trophy success at Wembley.

Chester will host Wrexham at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium on Saturday, October 3, and travel to the Racecourse on Saturday, March 19, although both fixtures are expected to be re-scheduled after being classed as 'bubble matches' for the past two seasons.

But whatever date the Blues are set to meet their fiercest of rivals, Hunt will be ready to make an impression for his new club.

"It was the first fixture I looked for when they came out because it's a local derby with a lot of history and I spent so much time at Wrexham," said Hunt, who has played against Chester in two previous derby clashes for his old club.

"It'll be a big game, as they always are, and I know the fans will be looking forward to them. I'll just be looking to make sure that Chester get the three points both times, that's the most important thing."

Liverpudlian Hunt also highlighted the two clashes with National League new boys Tranmere Rovers as ones that excite him, with the Blues set to travel to Prenton Park on Saturday, September 12 before welcoming former Chester City midfielder Gary Brabin's men to the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium on Saturday, February 27.

"There are a few big games for us and the Tranmere one will be big because they're a big club who've just been relegated from the Football League," added Hunt.

"I've got a lot of friends round there so it will be a good one for me and I'm looking forward to them. I just can't wait for pre-season to start and to get going with the lads. Hopefully we'll have a great season."
