Steve Burr hopes Jon Worsnop can play this weekend but has identified cover in case the keeper's double face fracture rules him out.

Worsnop, 31, suffered the injury five minutes into the goalless draw with Barnsley in the FA Cup second round on Sunday .

He remained on the field after an assessment from the match doctor and made a string of important saves as the Blues came close to pulling off another shock.

He went straight to hospital following the game, where the fractures were confirmed but he does not need an operation.

Specialists have told Worsnop he could continue playing with protection and he is keen to feature in the FA Trophy first round at AFC Telford United on Saturday (3pm).

Burr will give him every chance but with back up keeper Connor Roberts having limited first team experience the manager has lined up an emergency loan signing should Worsnop not be able to play.

Burr said: "I have seen players get injuries like that before and have to come off so for Jon to carry on for whole game on Sunday and play as well as he did amazes me.

"As for what we do now, the pleasing thing is that Jon doesn't need to have an operation. I spoke to him on Tuesday morning and we had a good discussion about how he feels and him playing.

"We are going down the route of getting him some protection and he feels comfortable with that so I will leave the decision down to Jon but we won't put him in danger.

"I know how much Jon wants to be in the team to play Telford on Saturday and if he feels right and our medical team are happy then as far as I'm concerned Jon can carry on.

"I have put one or two things in place in case Jon can't play as the worst case scenario is he is missing for six to eight weeks, and we can go out and get a goalkeeper even though the window is closed because it would be an emergency."
