UPTON AA will remember their former chairman and secretary next week.

Upton welcome West Cheshire League Division One rivals Chester Nomads to their Cheshire County Sports Club home on Saturday, July 30 to contest the inaugural Barry Gaulton Cup.

Mr Gaulton, who died aged 70 last October, served Upton for more than 30 years and club officials hope the friendly match and the day as a whole will act as a fitting tribute.

Fifteen minutes before the game, which will get under way at 3pm, Upton will reopen their renovated and repainted stand. The stand will be known as the ‘Barry Gaulton Stand’.

Peter Upton, the club’s current chairman and a great friend of Mr Gaulton, said: “All officials from both the West Cheshire League and The Chester & District League, referees, players past and present, family and friends are invited to come along to pay their respects.”

The presentation of the Barry Gaulton Cup will be made in the clubhouse after the match.
