UPTON were left heartbroken as they lost a thrilling West Cheshire League Division One derby at Chester Nomads 4-3 on Saturday.

The Cheshire County Sports Club outfit fought back from three goals down and seemingly were set to put a halt to their losing run.

But the hosts regained their composure and snatched a late winner from top scorer Kieran Smith.

Upton’s fifth defeat in their last six league matches means they remain second from bottom. Nomads, in contrast, are looking well placed in sixth.

John Cadwallader’s side took the lead through Smith and doubled their advantage when Ed Moss converted a penalty.

The in-form Moss then fired home a free kick to put Nomads in complete control.

But a Simon Andrews strike on the stroke of half-time gave the away team hope and they levelled the contest with efforts from Sean Finch and Todd Reid.

It remained all square until the closing stages when substitute George Pulford crossed for Smith to notch his 10th league goal of the season.

Blacon Youth Club earned an excellent 2-2 draw at Newton.

Adam Langton and leading marksman Jamie Rogers were on target for Blacon.

Christleton had to settle for a frustrating 1-1 draw at home to Southport Trinity.

Darren Coyle had put the Swans in front with a superb free kick.

Helsby fell further off the Division Two promotion pace as they went down 2-0 at second-placed Mallaby.

But Capenhurst Villa (Mike Banks, Iain Forster) won 2-1 away to Marshalls

Capenhurst’s reserves (Dave Jackson, Tom Hockley, Damien McGinnigle) drew 3-3 at Belfry in Division Three.

Tarporley Victoria continued their climb up the Cheshire League Division Two table with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Congleton Vale on Saturday.

Alastair Taylor got the resurgent Flacca outfit’s winner from the penalty spot after Scott Armstrong was upended in the box.

But it took some last-gasp defending to deny Congleton the point they thought their pressure deserved.

It was also an afternoon to savour for improving Malpas as they ended their eight-game wait for a league victory by triumphing 5-3 at Sandbach United.

Daniel Lloyd (2), Edward Barlow, Joseph Lunt and Joe Sumner got the goals.
