CHESTER Nomads are within touching distance of promotion to West Cheshire League Division One.

John Cadwallader’s talented young side will seal second place behind Division Two champions Ashville by taking four or more points from their matches at Maghull Reserves on Saturday (3pm) and at home to Bronze Social on Monday (6.30pm).

Nomads all but ended the challenge of third-placed New Brighton and fourth-placed Mossley Hill Athletic by drawing 0-0 at Ashville on Monday.

It was a magnificent result for the visitors given they made the trip to the Wirral without a host of recognised first-team players.

Andrew Fitzgibbon stood out for Nomads, who had won 3-1 at AFC Bebington Athletic on Saturday with goals from Dale Harris, Mark Crossan and George Pulford, the latter who pipped Ed Moss and Ilya Haycock to the man-of-the-match award.

Capenhurst Villa (Ryan Nicholl, Luke Eccles) lost 3-2 at home to West Kirby Reserves before going down 2-1 at home to New Brighton on Monday in spite of an Iain Forster strike.

Christleton Reserves (Phil Quilliam), 3-1 at home to Runcorn Linnets Reserves, and Upton AA Reserves, 4-0 at Ashville Reserves, tasted Division Three defeats on Saturday.

Upton (Ellis Dunning) drew 1-1 at Hale Reserves last Thursday after Christleton (Josh Wonderley, Quilliam) fell 3-2 at home to Mossley Hill Reserves the night before.
