AIRBUS UK Broughton go into Saturday’s top-of-the-table Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League clash at home to The New Saints (5.15pm) on the back of a win that did little to dispel the notion that they are genuine title contenders.

The in-form Wingmakers ran out 4-0 winners at fourth-placed Prestatyn Town last Friday to strengthen their grip on second spot and the sole automatic Europa League place.

It also moved them within seven points of the Saints, the current leaders and defending champions, whose director of football is former Airbus manager Craig Harrison.

Andy Preece, who replaced Harrison in the Wingmakers hotseat last January, cut a delighted figure after his side swept aside shell-shocked Prestatyn for the third time this season.

The Airbus boss: “It was a thoroughly professional performance. We created loads of chances, scored goals, kept a clean sheet – and against one of our nearest rivals. It puts us in a strong position with games running out.”

Chris Budys, Phil Bolland, Ian Kearney and Ryan Wade shared the strikes for the Wingmakers, who had beaten Prestatyn 5-0 and 6-1 in the first half of the campaign.

Preece added: “We never take the foot off the accelerator, especially against teams like Prestatyn.”

Saturday’s match with TNS will be televised live on S4C.
