Steve Burr was delighted to see his Chester FC side emerge from their trip to Southport last night with all three points after admitting they weren't at their best.

Goals from Michael Kay and substitute Craig Mahon in the final 11 minutes of the contest cancelled out Louis Almond's first-half opener at the Merseyrail Community Stadium, although the home side can feel hard done by not to have earned at least a share of the spoils.

"It was hard to pick anybody who really excelled tonight," said the Blues boss. "I'm just delighted to get the three points as it is a massive three points for us.

"We have got to be more ruthless in that final third. I thought the build-up play was quite good up to that point but I have said that if we are missing key players it affects us. It was great to have Craig (Mahon) back. When he came on he gave us that spark that wasn't there."
