VAUXHALL'S hopes of building on their midweek success at Moor Green were punctured by one early Kettering goal and one late on that secured the points for the Poppies.
The Motormen did not begin the contest well, playing second fiddle to the hard-working opponents, and it came as little surprise when they took a ninth minute lead, as home defender McNulty failed to deal with a high ball, which ran off nicely for Burgess to fire the opener from 12 yards out into the far corner.
Further Kettering goals may have followed, before the Motormen moved up a couple of gears on the half hour mark, and by the break, they could well have overturned the situation.
Anthony Wright first tested Croudson in the visitors' goal before Lawton crashed two fierce drives goalward, only for the custodian to match his efforts with two superb saves.
On the resumption, Motors' Darren Wright tried his luck from distance.
Twelve minutes from time Kettering substitute Difante blazed a great chance over before the visitors effectively wrapped up the points with a second on 84 minutes, as Difante sweetly converted Burgess' cross.
The Motormen are back in action tomorrow night, away to Hucknall Town, as they look to bounce back once more.
