CHESTER CITY chairman Stephen Vaughan and Tony Chambers, the Widnes Vikings' owner, had further talks over the weekend about Vaughan's possible involvement with the former Super League outfit.

The City supremo and Chambers met on Saturday prior to Chester's Coca-Cola League Two match at Rochdale.

"We had an amicable and positive meeting and the matter was progressed further," Vaughan said.

"As it stands at the moment, it looks as though we could be taking a substantial stake in the Vikings' club..

"The club has great potential. It has an excellent stadium and a good rapport with the local council.

"All that is needed now is a team capable of bouncing the club back into the Super League."

Vaughan added: "More discussions will be held in the near future, then the Widnes Vikings' board of directors will make an official announcement."

Meanwhile, tickets for Chester City's second round FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest will go on sale at midday on Thursday.

Tickets for the game will continue to be sold during business hours on Friday, and after Saturday's home league match against Peterborough United.

The game against Forest will be played at the Deva Stadium on Saturday, December 3 (kick-off 3pm).

Chester City goalkeeper Wayne Brown, who is on a season-long loan arrangement with Nationwide Conference club Hereford United, has broken his wrist. The injury happened during a training session with the Edgar Street club.
