Craig Hobson roughed up the Southend United defenders in the FA Cup first round and wants to do the same to Barnsley this weekend in the second round.

Southend boss Phil Brown singled out the forward after the 2-0 win at Roots Hall, where the 26-year-old excelled in holding up the ball and chasing down Jakub Sokolík and Luke Prosser to give the centre backs an afternoon to forget.

Hobson has been on the bench for the last four games but will start on Sunday (1pm) because Matty Hughes has returned to Fleetwood Town and Rhys Oates cannot play against his parent club.

He will be up against Lewin Nyatanga and Peter Ramage, two proven Championship campaigners, but that doesn't concern Hobson, who has six goals in 23 appearances this season.

Hobson said: "Obviously it's unfortunate that Matty's gone back because he's been class for us but like all the lads everyone's got to take their opportunity when it comes.

"I think all the lads will say that we're going to go there with no fears and just going to play like we did at Southend and hopefully we can get the same result.

"Everyone just wants to do their best for themselves and for the team. We're all looking forward to it, there's no fear, no pressure and we're just going to go and play."

Steve Burr and Jon McCarthy had the squad in for an extra day this week to prepare for the game, and freshened up training with some boxing-based fitness work.

With extended highlights of the match being shown on the BBC Final Score programme, Hobson would love to get himself a goal but thinks keeping things tight defensively will be crucial.

Too often this season Chester haven't got going until the opposition have taken a one, two or even three goal lead, and Hobson knows that the Blues cannot afford to do that at Oakwell, where at least 1,700 travelling fans will be supporting them.

Hobson said: "I think that's a big thing for us on Sunday because they are going to have better quality than players in our league so we've just got to cut down on the chances we give them and hopefully we'll take ours at the other end.

"Everyone wants to score and obviously with it being on television as well it adds a bit more publicity for yourself and for the team.

"I've got a few of my family going over and a few of my girlfriend's family that are coming so it will be a good day."
